SUN-MATE CORP.: FROM AUTO ACCESSORIES
TO “WOW!” UNDER THE TREE TOYS
U.S. owned Sun-Mate Corp. is a manufacturer and marketer of a
diverse range of consumer products and toys. Sun-Mate’s depth of
Asian manufacturing resources, combined with its U.S.
sales/marketing expertise form the basis for the company’s
quality-crafted, cost-efficient product mix. Sun-Mate is based in
Chatsworth, CA with offices in Hong Kong and Toronto, Ontario.
Sun-Mate was started by its owner, Rami Ben-Moshe, twenty-two years
ago as an outgrowth of his interest in developing environmentally
viable consumer products. Today, Sun-Mate’s line includes the
innovative Solar Centurion, a motion and heat-sensing solar-powered
security system. In addition, the company’s Dash-to-Dash car charger
is a Sun-Mate patented product that charges a car battery simply by
making the connection between two vehicles’ cigarette lighters (or
12V outlets). With over 1 million units sold, consumers have
embraced the convenience of not having to open the hood when in need
of a charge.
This year, Sun-Mate unveiled its new range of AC Delco ® automotive
accessories. AC Delco is the world’s largest supplier of auto parts,
and a natural brand for innovative accessories for use in and around
the car. Sun-Mate’s AC Delco line enhances the driving experience
with accessories such as rechargeable spotlights and flashlights,
ideal for use on the road or in the home. Finally, all of Sun-Mate’s
AC Delco accessories are designed to more efficiently harness the
inherent power in vehicles and homes; most include AC and 12V
chargers, and many offer the additional option of dynamo (hand
crank) power.
Whereas Sun-Mate’s AC Delco line offers consumers heightened
convenience, the company’s emerging range of Secret Santa ®
pre-wrapped holiday gifts dramatically simplify the gift-giving
experience. All Sun-Mate gifts are Secret Santa-priced to retail for
approximately $9.99. Each comes pre-wrapped and includes a
full-color removable package sleeve which depicts and describes the
product within.
While Secret Santa appeals to adult gift-givers, its no secret that
Sun-Mate’s big margin, big value toys will resonate with kids this
holiday season. Responding to the toy industry’s over-dependence on
brands (and commensurate reduced customer margins and diminished
product value), Sun-Mate zigs while others zag, with opening-priced,
margin-intensive products, loaded with features. The company is able
to leverage its combination of consumer products and toys across a
network of quality Asian manufacturing resources. The result is
exceedingly competitively-priced products; a characteristic all but
extinct from a U.S.-owned toy company.
Set to elicit “WOW’s!” from under the tree this holiday, are
Sun-Mate’s 37 key multifunction keyboard, massive medieval castle
and one big happy family dollhouse. In addition, the company’s vast
array of walkie-talkies, play sets and wooden products make Sun-Mate
a prolific U.S. toymaker with the increasingly unique capacity to
